Welcome to TrovaMoney — a ledger for your household's money: what comes in, what goes out, what you owe, and what's owed to you.
Getting started
- Sign up with your email and a password. You'll get a 3-day free trial, no card required.
- On your first visit, you'll be asked to choose a language (English, हिंदी, or मराठी) — you can change this anytime in Settings.
- Once signed in, you'll land on the Dashboard, which stays empty until you log your first entry.
Dashboard
Your home screen. Shows, for the month selected in the header: - Income, Expenses, Net, Savings rate — the core numbers - You owe / Owed to you — only appears once you've logged a Loan - Where it went — a pie chart of spending by category - Budget vs. actual — how you're tracking against targets you've set - Income vs. expenses — a 6-month trend - Accounts — a calculated balance per account, once you've set one up
Use the month picker in the header to look at any past month.
Add Expense
Log a purchase or payment. Fields: Date, Amount, Category, Sub-category, Payment method, Account (optional), Payee, Tags, Notes, plus up to 5 custom fields you define in Settings.
Recurring toggle: check "Recurring" to save this as a template for next month. You choose which fields carry forward — Category, Payment method, Payee, and Notes default on; Amount defaults off, since bills like electricity change, but rent doesn't.
Quick Add
For when you don't have time for the full form — spent ₹10 on chai and need to keep moving. Tap the green "+" button (bottom-left, on every screen) and log just the amount, with an optional one-line note. That's it.
Quick-added expenses land in a "Needs review" queue at the top of Add Expense, instead of going straight into your main list. Come back later — at the end of the day, or whenever suits you — and for each one, either: - Fill in the Category and Payee, then "Save & mark reviewed", or - Tap "Keep as is" if the amount and note are all you need
A banner on the Dashboard shows how many quick-added expenses are waiting, with a one-tap jump straight to the queue.
Two more ways into Quick Add, without opening the app fully: - App Shortcut — long-press the TrovaMoney icon on your home screen (after installing it — see "Installing as an app" below) for a direct "Quick add expense" shortcut - Share Target — after a payment in GPay, PhonePe, or any app with a Share button, tap Share and choose TrovaMoney. It pulls the amount out of the shared text automatically and opens Quick Add pre-filled
Add Income
Log money coming in — salary, rent received, anything. Same Recurring toggle works here too.
Budgets
Set a spending target per category, per month. The Dashboard and this tab both show Target vs. Actual vs. Variance, so you can see at a glance where you're over or under.
Cards
Track a credit card's billing cycle. Add a card with its cycle start/end days; the app auto-calculates what you owe for the current cycle from expenses you've tagged to that card. You can manually override the amount to match your real statement, then log payments against it.
Loans
Covers four situations: Bank Loan, Credit Card balance you're paying off, Borrowed from someone, or Lent to someone. Enter the principal, an optional interest rate (shown for reference only — not auto-calculated), and an optional exact "total payable" if you know it. Log repayments over time; status moves automatically from Not settled → Partially settled → Settled.
Recurring
Manage everything you've marked "Recurring" from the Expense/Income forms — see what's remembered, pause or delete items. When new items are ready to generate for the current month, a banner appears on the Dashboard: "N recurring items ready — Generate now." This creates real entries pre-filled with whatever fields you chose to remember; anything you chose not to remember (like a variable amount) comes in blank for you to fill in.
Balances (Accounts)
Create named accounts (e.g. "HDFC Savings," "Cash Wallet"). Tag them on your expenses and income to get a calculated balance — your last manual snapshot, plus tagged income, minus tagged expenses, since that date. Log a manual snapshot anytime to correct for anything the app doesn't know about (cash spending, bank fees, interest).
Household
Share your finances with people you trust. In Settings → Household: - Create a household (just needs a name) — you'll get a 6-character invite code - Join one using someone else's code - Once in a household, your expenses, income, budgets, loans, and custom categories become visible to everyone in it — including anything you'd already logged before joining - Leave anytime; this stops future sharing but doesn't erase history
Settings
- Backup — export a full copy of your data as a file, anytime
- Subscription — see your plan, cancel (takes effect at the end of your current billing period)
- Household — described above
- Currency — INR, USD, EUR, or GBP
- Language — English, हिंदी, मराठी
- Categories — add your own, on top of the presets
- Custom fields — label up to 5 extra fields shown on the Add Expense form
- Danger zone — delete all your data and start fresh (keeps your account), or permanently delete your account entirely. Both require typing "DELETE" to confirm, since neither can be undone.
Account & security
- Dark mode — toggle in the header or login screen; can follow your system setting automatically
- Change password — from the profile menu (top right), while signed in
- Forgot password — from the sign-in screen, sends a reset link by email
- Signing in on a new device or tab automatically signs out the old one, for security
- You're signed out automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity
Installing as an app
TrovaMoney can be installed like a native app: - Android (Chrome): menu → "Install app" - iPhone/iPad (Safari): Share icon → "Add to Home Screen"
This gives you a home-screen icon and a full-screen experience — no browser address bar. See the FAQ for what this does and doesn't mean for your data.
